Weeks 1–2
Pain
Calm the pain down.
Swelling management and hands-on work first so the joint moves more easily, then range of motion, which is the priority above everything else.
What We Treat
Range of motion in the first weeks matters more than almost anything else. We protect that window. It is fixable, and it starts with a cause-first evaluation, not a guess.

Why It Happens
After a knee replacement, range of motion is easiest to win in the early weeks and much harder to recover later. That is the single most time-sensitive part of the recovery, and it is why we protect that window before anything else.
Behind it sits the strength problem. The quadriceps shut down quickly around knee surgery, and the muscle you lost during the years of avoiding things does not return just because the joint was replaced. That is what the middle phases are for.
The Honest Truth
Nobody regrets starting too early. Plenty of people here wish they had started sooner.
How We Fix It
Every plan has an endpoint. Here is what the four phases look like after a knee replacement.
Weeks 1–2
Pain
Swelling management and hands-on work first so the joint moves more easily, then range of motion, which is the priority above everything else.
Weeks 2–6
Prime
Working steadily toward full range within your surgeon’s guidance, and restoring a normal walking pattern.
Weeks 6–10
Perform
Progressive quadriceps and glute strengthening to close the gap with the other leg. This is what gets you up stairs properly.
Weeks 10+
Prevent
Stairs, longer walks and getting off the floor, tested before you are cleared rather than discharged on a date.
She helped him reestablish his balance and overall strength prior to and after his knee surgery. My husband looked forward to each visit.

Questions, Answered
They matter more than almost anything else. Range of motion is easiest to win early and much harder to recover later, so that window is what we protect first.
It is uncomfortable, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can do is control the dose, do the hands-on work first so the joint moves more easily, and stay with you for the whole session rather than leaving you with a sheet.
Most patients see a significant reduction in pain within six visits. A full plan for knee replacement recovery runs through all four phases, Pain, Prime, Perform and Prevent, and you will always know which phase you are in and what is left. That is a plan with an endpoint, not an open-ended string of appointments.
