Occupational therapy, from Cebu City to Carpentersville

I was born and raised in Cebu City, Philippines, and earned my degree in occupational therapy at Velez College in 2010. My first years were spent as a pediatric occupational therapist in private clinics back home, while also teaching and coordinating clinical placements at Velez College. After passing my national boards in 2012, my husband and I moved to the United States.

My first stop was Hazard, Kentucky, working acute rehabilitation and acute care at Appalachian Regional Healthcare Hospital from 2014 to 2018. We moved to Illinois in late 2018, and I have worked across home health, outpatient, assisted living, and nursing home settings ever since.

Helping people get their independence back

As an occupational therapist, owner, and manager at Maxicare, I work with patients on the daily living skills that pain, illness, or age can take away: dressing, cooking, managing a household, thinking clearly, moving safely. I see a lot of cognitive challenges, aging-related decline, post-stroke recovery, and mobility impairments, and my goal with every patient is the same: help them regain as much independence as they can.

My core values are respect, responsibility, compassion, courage, fairness, growth, gratitude, and loyalty. I hold onto a line from Ralph Waldo Emerson: “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”

What I love about this team

Our team complements each other. We listen, brainstorm, and still laugh at our own mistakes, and we communicate with trust and respect on a regular basis. Outside of work, you will usually find me at karaoke, in a zumba or yoga class, or traveling with my husband and family.
