A Senior Fitness Program Built Around You
From the physical therapy team at Maxicare in Carpentersville.
Most exercise advice for older adults is either far too general to be useful or far too intense to be safe. Neither answers the actual question, which is what do I specifically need.
What kind of exercise do you actually need?
It depends entirely on where you are. Someone whose main issue is unsteadiness on stairs needs something different from someone whose knees ache after gardening, and both need something different from someone recovering from a hip replacement.
A general class cannot tell those apart. That is not a criticism of classes, it is just what a class is.
The Functional Fitness Formula
This is our senior fitness programme, and the point of it is that it starts by looking at you. It begins with a one-on-one assessment with a Certified Exercise Expert for the Aging Adult, a credential accredited by the Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy.
That assessment is what the programme is then built from, rather than the other way round.
Why the assessment is the important part
Because unsteadiness has causes, and they are treatable once identified. It might be leg strength, it might be how well your ankles move, it might be your inner ear, and the right work is different for each.
Guessing means training the wrong thing for months. Testing means training the right thing from week one. If balance is your concern, see balance and gait.
What it is aimed at
- Strength you can feel in real tasks: stairs, getting off the floor, carrying shopping
- Balance and confidence, so you stop planning routes around handrails
- Keeping the activities you already enjoy rather than replacing them
Finding out whether it suits you
Call and ask for a free 15-minute phone consultation with our exercise expert. You can describe your situation, ask whatever you want, and get an honest answer about whether this programme is right for you.
Nothing about that call commits you to anything. Call or text us on (224) 858-5161, or request an appointment. No referral needed in Illinois.
